So today for health we watched a series of interviews from different perspectives on the cannabis debate, each video covered a different thing, the view from both sides (pro and anti cannabis), the view of former drug users and the view of how it impacted another country that did the same.
After watching all of this my opinions on the debate as a whole seems a little biased towards the pro-cannabis side mostly because in the more "professional" side of the debate the person representing anti-cannabis failed to make any valid or good points, and any points that could've made great points like the drug wars in south America were just blurted out and discarded without a second thought, so if they'd had a better representative for it then I'd have a better view of the reprecussions,
But that was thankfully cleared up in the video regarding the view of the public, instead of focusiing on what other countries problems are but instead focus on their lives and the lives of people around them and how they're affected by drugs, Cannabis isn't the most used drug but legalizing it would cut down the use of synthetics which have been proven deadlier than the drug itself, it was great to see that these people are actively trying to help other people off drugs, one is even trying to bring together a community to create an anti-drug expo, this is a much better approach to the argument
The 3rd viewpoint of seeing how it's affected a country from an outside perspective was another well done point, the speaker was straight forward and wanted to make sure his point was being made clear, even if the host was twisting some of his words, he did his best and covered a lot of facts about the legalization and decriminalization of cannabis.
So in final, I agreed with most of these points, I still think it can be a good thing for cannabis to be made legal, as long as the right precautions are taken, I personally have no intentions of doing Cannabis myself but I know of it's effects from friends and my own research, I know it can help stress and several forms of depression, but only temporarily

Mitosis & Meiosis extension questions
Mitosis
1. Identify 4 body parts in which mitosis takes place: Arms, Legs, Torso, Head
2. How many daughter cells are produced by 1 parent cell? Two
3. How similar are daughter cells to each other and to the original parent cells? They're identical
4. If a parent cells begins with 46 chromesomes, how many chromesomes will there be in a daughter cell? Also 46 since they're identical.
5. Are the daughter cells produced Haploid or Daploid? Daploid
Meiosis
1. Where in the body does Meiosis occur in a human:
Male: seminiferous tubules
Female: Oocyte/Oocytes
2. What kind of cells are produced by meiosis in a human:
Male: Spermatocytes/ Spermatozoa
Female: Oocyte/ Ovum
In general, these sex cells are called Daughter cells
3. How many cells are produced by one parent cell?
Four
4. Are daughter cells produced by meiosis identical to eachother and to the original parent cells? No, they aren't, There are 4 daughter cells with 2 chromosomes in each 1 as opposed to them being identical to the parent

P.E Reflection
What does self management mean?: Self management is to take certain strides to mantain our life styles or to complete a particular task.
What have we been learning about managing self in P.E?: Having a can-do attitude, self motivation, doing what I know needs to be done.
What have you enjoyed learning about/focusing on managing self in P.E?: I've gotten changed into my P.E gear, warmed up, sat down when instructed, participated when I can and followed the rules of the game.
What parts of managing self have you done well in P.E?: As far as I can tell, i've done well in all aspects.
What can be done to overcome these challenges? Just keep improving upon it.
In your other subjects, what do you think you need to do to improve how you manage yourself?: I believe I am doing well enough to meet standard.
At home, what do you think you need to do to improve how you manage yourself?: I also believe I am doing well enough at home.
Think about your dream job: Why would if be important to manage yourself in that job?: As an Animator, it's can be stressful with all the deadlines, requests, requirements ETC, so being able to manage that would help me be the most efficient I can be.

Marijuana debate
Currently, Marijuana is illegal, if you are found in possession of the substance then you cna either recieve a $500 fine or face a sentence of up to 14-15 years inprisonment, is you are found growing and supplying it, then the consequences are greater,
I know this because I went to this site
You may be wondering how these are true facts and why I didn't use places like the Wikipedia, well the Wikipedia is a public domain where anyone can add and edit the site where as this site is .govt so it is officiated by the government, An example is for the wikipedia, I could go on and state all these false facts about it and you wouldn't know because it's an unofficial site, with .govt sites it gets cycled and confirmed before being made public.
But with Marijuana potentially being made legal, things will change greatly, The general idea is to make Marijuaa legal for medical purposes, In my opinion I'm mixed on this, I don't want it legal for the sake of Drug abuse, but if you are required a license to obtain it, then i'll be more confident about it.

Should Marijuana be legal in NZ?
The current topic we're learning is regarding to the current political decision to have the people vote on whether to make majijuana legal, Personally I can only see one good outcome from this in, that being that it only being made available as a medical drug to be sold at pharmacies, otherwise there might be outrages about the other remaining drugs, I don't intend on using it myself but I've seen other countries sell it at pharmacies under license for cases such as high stress levels and mental disorders like schizophrenia, it numbs the mind, drowns out the voices, the problem is this is a temporary solution like painkillers, it helps for a bit but you grow a reliance on it, so I think it should be legal, but only if license laws are put in place if it is only used for medicinal reasons and make it illegal to smoke it in public places where kids are around.
What do you think?

D.N.A Uses
From the research we've done this week about D.N.A we've learnt how it is/can be used,
You D.N.A can be used to trace your origins I.E parents this is often used to find out who the parent of a child is to avoid confusion.
It is also used in crime related topics, an example being testing blood to find out who was involved

Cloning research
In sexual reproduction, a child receives half of their genes from the mother (contained in the egg) and half from the father (contained in the sperm). The combination of maternal and paternal genes which occurs at fertilisation forms the basis of human genetic variety and diversity. A small amount of genetic material is contained within mitochondria within the egg and this mitochondrial DNA is passed on to the child entirely from the mother.

Should Facebook be blocked?
Students perspective: I think Facebook should stay blocked because of what would happen when it wasn't, students would refuse to do work and just talk to other people, mess around on games, ETC. There's a lot of content on there that isn't appropriate for their age group, scammers, gore, sexual content and more things like that, so in my opinion Facebook should stay blocked during class.
Teachers perspective: Facebook should be blocked because the students don't do their work, they're loud and only distract those actally trying to get their work done, Facebook does not help them in anyway they make excuses like "what if we need to message someone?" when if the message is THAT important than the school can be contacted and they will be imformed there, No matter the case all Facebook will do is cause problems.

How the tides work
This week we've been learning about how the Sun/Moon/Earth (SME) Affect our tides
How the tides work
The water in the oceans can move more easily than the land.
The gravitational attraction of the Sun and the Moon pull it towards the sides of the
Earth where the Sun and Moon are, and this causes a high tide.

Earth where the Sun and Moon are, and this causes a high tide.
The spin of the Earth, and the Earth being pulled away from the oceans towards the side where the Sun
and Moon are, causes a second high tide on the opposite side to the Sun and the Moon.
Between the two low tides, so as the Earth turns you get two high tides and two low tides every day.
As the Moon moves around the Earth, tides times change.

As the Moon moves around the Earth, tides times change.
- When the Sun, Moon and Earth line up we get a spring tide with a big difference between high and low tide.
- When the Sun and Moon form a triangle with the Earth, then there is not much difference between high and low tide. This called a neap tide.
2 Kinds of Eclipse
- Solar eclipse - Daytime, When the moon casts a shadow on the Earth, causing the sun to go dark, SME/New moon

11 Rules of Life
"If you Mess up, it's not your parent's fault, so don't whine about your mistakes, Learn from them"
with this we can understand, there's no one else to blame but ourselves for our actions whether good or bad, you made the choice to go through with it, even if you were coax'd into it, they didn't do it, you did.
Taking this we can also take pride in our actions for statements from people like "It's because of me you're here" it may be true, but you did it, not them, have some pride in yourself and be thankful for it.

Mike King reflections
Mike King (A Maori comedian) came in last week and gave a talk about raising awareness to Depression.
Something interesting you took from his talk:
Depression isn't always obvious, a lot of the time you never know someone has depression until it's too late.
Something I took from it:
One of the issues of depression in pride, mostly among boys because they've been raised in an environment where they can't be emotional, they can't talk about their feelings, they can't cry, so when it comes to moments like this it can get really confusing only adding to the problem.
What can I do?
I know a few friends with depression, I've been trying to help them, it isn't always enough, but I still try to be there for them.

Holiday
These holidays have been.......different, the first week was passive, nothing special, then the 2nd week came and it was hectic, we were getting up early, coming home late, for the whole week we were attending a conference, I personally didn't want to go but my parents made me, the smoke machines used for light shows gave me a sore throat, in my opinion one of the only upsides to it was being able to choose what I could have for dinner. It was still fun, and I got to hang out with my friend time to time, but I honestly would've preferred to do something else.
Hauora:
- Taha Tinana: It was nice to get out of the house, and actually do something.
- Taha Whanau: I got to hang out with my friend pretty much all week.
- Taha Hinengaro: I got a lot of time to myself, a lot of thoughts, some good, some bad.
- Taha Wairua: It was a church conference so it's pretty self-explanitory.
